Madame Hamard was born on 28 December 1875 and died on 6 March 1948. She bought the restaurant in 1903. After becoming a widow in 1910, she was assisted by her sister.

Between 1920 and 1940, famous personalities from Paris and abroad came to the restaurant, including leading film actors such as Fernandel, Pierre Fresnay and Jean Carmet.

During that period, the hotel was located above the restaurant.

The Duke of Windsor paid a visit on 7 May 1937. He was the King of England in 1935 but after marrying an American divorcee, he was obliged to abdicate.

Madame Hamard had something of the Robin Hood in her. She was extremely kind and often gave free meals to the poor, telling them “the others will pay”, the others being the richer guests!

Madame Hamard worked very hard and apparently had a very difficult personality. She refused to continue her activities during the 1939-1945 war. Her speciality was the famous Mère Hamard lobster.

Patrick and Monique Pégué arrived in 1975.
It had always been Patrick Pégué’s ambition to become a chef, “For this job, you really must want to do it!”
